A trailer for Season 4 of Bridgerton was released on Thursday, bringing with it a brand-new Cinderella story. This time, the Regency romance produced by Shonda Rhimes tells the love story of Benedict Bridgerton, the roguish player of the family, who finally meets his match — if only he could figure out her true identity.
The new trailer opens with Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) receiving the latest hot tea from Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), now unmasked as the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown. That pulls us into Benedict’s story. Unlike his siblings, Benedict is keen on sleeping around and never settling down — which greatly disappoints his mother, Violet (Ruth Gemmell), who insists that he find a wife.
Meanwhile, the show introduces a new character: Sophie (Yerin Ha), the maid of a high-society family. When she learns of a ball being thrown in town, she attends in secret, her face hidden by a mask. There, she meets Benedict, who is instantly smitten. Unfortunately, in Cinderella fashion, Sophie runs off without giving Benedict her real name, leaving behind only a single white glove for him to remember her by.
Benedict embarks on a quest to find his lost love, changing his playboy ways in the process. But Sophie is afraid he won’t like who he finds. “He wants to find the lady in the silver gown,” she says, “and she is not real.” Of course, this is Bridgerton, so the likelihood that true love will prevail is pretty high.
Season 4 of Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s 2001 romance novel An Offer From a Gentleman, and has two parts. The first half will drop on Jan. 29, and the second on Feb. 26. The third season focused on the love between Penelope and Benedict’s brother Colin (Luke Newton).
